Trigger Points Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a direct manual treatment of a trigger point. This consists normally of constant pressure with fingers, elbow, thumb or cold cups for up to 90 seconds. This pressure is applied to a localised point of pain or an unnoticed pain point until pressure is applied (know as myofascial trigger point).

Trigger points are a manifestation of small knots in the muscles that affect the resting tone of the muscles and can sometimes cause a spasm, referred pain or restriction in ROM (Range of Movement).

Trigger point therapy is used in remedial and sports massage to help with a range of conditions: sports injuries, calf cramps, headaches, TMJ, neck pain, jaw pain, basically anywhere there are muscles that can spasm.
